The Highway Code was introduced in 1931 and is one of the few books available that can lay claim to saving thousands of lives a year.
When it was first launched there were just 2 million vehicles in the UK, yet over 7,000 deaths occured on our roads each year. Today there are more than 27 million vehicles on the roads but thanks to The Highway Code and other advances in our society, only half the number of deaths happen on our roads today.
The Highway Code is essential reading for anybody who uses our highways, whether pedestrian or driver. Its also essential for passing your driving test regardless what vehicle you are going to drive.
